Help! My Social Security work credits expired! What do I do?

If your work credits have expired, don’t panic. You may still be able to get disability. Your options will change depending on your situation.

  • “I have never applied for disability.”

  • “I applied and got denied recently. I have not been to a hearing.”

  • “I applied and got denied in the past. I have not been to a hearing.”

  • “I applied and got denied at a hearing”


“I have never applied for disability.”

  1. You can apply now and get approved if you can prove that you became disabled before your date: How to Go Back in Time.

  2. If you have little or no income, you can apply for SSI instead. This is because SSI is different than SSDI.

  3. However, you may wish to look into all your options first because SSI is not as good as SSDI

“I applied and got denied recently. I have not been to a hearing.”

  1. If your application is denied, you can keep appealing and appealing, each time trying to prove that you became disabled before your date:  How to Go Back in Time.

  2. If you have little or no income, you can apply for SSI instead. This is because SSI is different than SSDI.

  3. However, you may wish to look into all your options first because SSI is not as good as SSDI

  2. You can start a new application for  SSDI and attempt to get your case reopened
