YOU DO NOT NEED TO SIGN UP IF

For adults, you do not need to sign up if:

💙 You filed taxes in 2018 or 2019 or

💙 You already signed up on Turbotax or FreeFileUSA or IRS or

💙 You started receiving Social Security before January 1, 2020 and you don’t have kids under 17

💙 Someone claimed you as a dependent on their 2019 taxes (You will not be eligible this year, maybe next year learn more)

YOU DO NEED TO SIGN UP IF

💙 None of the four things above applies to you

I HAVE CHILDREN”

There is only one way to get a payment for a child under 17: Parents must sign up or file taxes. There is no other way for a child to get a payment.

Note: If you are on Social Security, you have missed the deadline to sign up your children. You may need to wait til the end of 2020, file a tax return, then get child’s payment then.

I HAVE NO INCOME”

People with $0 income still qualify if they sign up

  1. Hello, I’m curious? I receive SSI just my name only and I e-filed couple months ago and I also e-filed today for my 16 years old son separately for him (he will turn 17 this month on the 30th and receives SSI too that have his name (no payee) will I get my 16 yr old son’s $500 child or what? I haven’t gotten $500 child yet that’s why I went ahead and e-file for my son and checked box to be claimed as dependent since he’s 16 and my child. Please answer my question if any one of you know? Thank you so much. 🙂

  2. I am a single mother and have two children one just turned 19 and the other is 12 that receive SSI benefits. I don’t work and did not file taxes this year, so neither of my children were claimed as dependent’s on anyone’s taxes. I filed using the non-filers tool through the irs’s website and received my 1200.00 check through the mail on May the 2nd, but did not receive the money for my children. So I am wondering if my children will get their stimulus money via Direct Express because that is normally how they receive there benefits each month. I am there Rep. Payee.

  4. I have been on SSDI since 2014. It is my only income so I do not file taxes. I receive a SSA-1099 every year. However my dad is my payee. Do I need to sign up and give them my own information? Or will my check go to my regular account where my checks are normally deposited? (Which is in my dad’s bank account).

My Son is 17years old he was born in 2002, he lives with me and he receives SSI since he was 2006, I’ve been his payee the whole time, he has not yet received a stimulus check in his bank account. It’s been the same account for 10years. I feel it’s not fair for him. Please let me know what up, and what we need to do, is there a website or phone number for us to call.

    1. I read that disabled people will get their checks on April 29th. My dad was approved for disability 2 yrs ago and he gets his payment every month direct deposit in his bank. He got his stimulus like I read on the 29th. My monthly money comes on my direct Express card every month. My mom is my payee but i keep my card. I didn’t receive my stimulus yet. Do people who get their monthly money direct Express get it on a later date then the 29th and at a later date then those that have their money directly deposited? Thanks

I have tried three times to help him sign up, doing everything correctly but continues to be rejected!!!

What or how can he straighten this all out?

  10. I find it sad that there is a large group not covered. 17to 24 yr olds roughly. Adult Special needs that get SSI but are still dependents on their parents taxes because they are still being taken care of. Who decided 17 and 18 yr old still in school and dependent on their parents dont quality as a dependent. College kids that get assistance from parents but arent dependents according to govt and miss out because parents claim rhem. Nobody wins there. Sad scenario.

  15. Need some advice as to what to do next. My brother lives with me, he is 60 yrs. old and has been on SSI (definitely not SSDI) since 2018. He is single, has no dependents and no other income than SSI. He has no bank account. He did not file in 2018. He gets his SSI on a ‘Direct Express’ debit card. On April 5, this site was recommending he should file a 2019 tax return. My computer operating system is too old to do e-file (it is pre-Windows 7) so we filled out the 1040 pdf form, printed it andsnail mailed it on April 7. I researched on teh Internet and found that SSI is not reported on a 1040, so his income for 2019 was listed as zero. Now I read IRS is not now processing paper tax returns due to the virus. Will he get a stimulus payment for this year and will it be on his Direct Express card?

  18. My brother receives SS Disability. All but $50 goes directly to his assisted living facility every month, who is his payee. He has never needed to file a return. How will he receive his stimulus check? They don’t know his bank information. Social security just knows to deposit his check to payee, the facility, every month. He fears he may never receive it. Please help.

On this page where I found your website I read 9 articles, ever article was in conflict with the other. Yes, I recieve a 1099 form, BUT, in the articles I’ve read it’s stating very misleading information.

So I have no 1099. I also did not file taxes for 2018 or 2019. Should I do the quick file deal now for 2019?
