Sample List of Unsuccessful Housing Search

2dfjk

This type of list can be helpful if you are submitting a request for;

  • exception to payment standard or
  • rent from a family member

An unsuccessful housing search list is a way to show the housing authority that you tried your best to find suitable housing within their rules, but could not find anything that met your disability needs.

What Goes on the List

Your list can include any place you contacted or visited, along with some places you ruled out just from researching and reading.

If your housing authority publishes a list of landlords, it is a good idea to include as many places on their list as possible. You can also add any additional places that you looked into from craigslist, gosection8, affordablehousingonline, local newspapers, or other contacts.

Sample Housing Search List

Next to each listing you can include the reason why this apartment does not meet your disability needs, and which need is not met:

Optional Extras

If you wish, you can also include some places that are not available or not suitable for other reasons (won’t take vouchers, no vacancies, too expensive). This shows that you have tried as many places as possible.

However, it’s important that your list primarily focuses on showing how your disability needs are keeping you from finding suitable housing. Reasons not related to your disability may not be important.

How many places do you need to include?

There’s not a specific number. Include every place that you contacted or researched or visited. Some housing authorities require a minimum of 10 places that are all under payment standard.
